BONNIE BROOKS
Bonnie Brooks is an award winning artist, showing her work around the country. She has received the Raleigh Medal of Arts for extra-ordinary achievements in the arts. Bonnie did her undergraduate work at Western Michigan University, studying watercolors and drawing with Harold Hefner, of Spain. She completed her Masters at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. The artist studies of art are not exclusive to school, but she has traveled around the world to such places as Spain, England, France, Austria, Germany, Hungary and Czech. I am a realistic artist because I believe in painting what I can see. What God has so perfectly created. I do not want to do art that shocks people, but comforts people. I want people to look at my work and see the peace that God has created finding that comforting spirit.”

Oil Pastel - 26” X 32” I traveled outside of the city of Vienna, Austria to see the elegance of these manicured vineyards. The land formation and rolling hills were absolutely amazing! Rocky terrain and constantly changing elevations in Austria are part of the landscape, considering that the region is so mountainous that only 20 percent of the land can be used for growing crops. As for the city of Vienna and surrounding areas, it resides in the Eastern Forelands land region where the soil is fertile and helps make it Austria's chief agricultural area. Even though we were in the lowland area of Austria, there were some very steep hills we had to climb to get to the vineyard. Since the transit system did not venture up these steep slopes, we had our exercise for the day after reaching the winery. As you can see, it was well worth the trip.

Oils on Canvas - 36” X 56” One of my favorite things to do when I visit my mother in Florida is watch the birds. They have the greatest birds in Florida I always said I wanted to take them home. They do not seem to be afraid of anyone and they will hang around a good long time. This is important when you are trying to draw them or even take their photograph. The egret family is my favorite.

Oil Painting - 18” X 24” Prague is one of the most picturesque cities in the world. Every street and corner is a painting. This exquisite view was painted in Prague, Czech, just off the Charles Bridge. Rich in mythology, one only has to stand in the middle of the Charles Bridge at the dead of night amongst the moon shadows cast by the early Gothic bridge towers and Baroque statues to appreciate something of the special atmosphere of the place. I felt that I wanted to capture the style of the living here rather than the typically painted scenes.
