Greg Barth Profile
Artist StatementMy imagery is the physical record of my meditations at places that may or may not be familiar to the viewer. Recognizable place or not, I am showing my way of seeing that occurs only when I calm myself and look beyond the obvious. Almost everything has beauty and finding that quality is such a joy. I isolate on the a subject or part of a subject and try to separate it from its surroundings. By doing that you can appreciate the beauty it has to offer independent of the world around it and its bias. It allows form along with light and shadow to reach the viewer undiluted. While I photograph landmarks as well as things that could be anywhere, I do not favor one over the other. All things are treated for what they are, not what labels society has placed on them. I use a quiet eye to show wonderful things from the known to the obscure.
Process Statement
Most images that are shown on this site were photographed with a large format camera on color transparency film. Some were done with a Holga medium format camera on black and white film. The film is scanned, converted to black and white and output as a giclee print. All prints are produced by me on my own equipment with archival pigmented inksets on watercolor paper. The prints are mounted on acid free museum rag board.
