Jim Cole
Jim specializes in color landscape and nature photography. He shoots with 35mm, medium format and large format (4x5) cameras. He also teaches photography seminars and workshops. Jim was born in Massachusetts, raised in Texas, and has lived in Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Alaska and Colombia, South America. Jim is a member of the North American Nature Photography Association and the Artists' Coalition of Flagstaff.
Jim is drawn to dynamic landscapes, bold colors and unusual patterns in nature. He also attempts to photograph birds and other wildlife in ways that make a statement about their natural place on our planet. His hope is to build an awareness of our fragile environment and an appreciation of nature in people who view his images.
Each image captures a unique moment in time, never to be repeated in exactly the same way. While most of Jim’s photographs are the result of a pre-visualized idea mixed with extreme amounts of patience, others are nothing more than gratuitous luck. In all cases capturing that decisive moment involved an intimate knowledge of the technical aspects of photography, an awareness of his surroundings, an understanding of the subject and, of course, being in the right place at the right time. He hopes you enjoy a look at our natural world as he has captured it on film.
Jim’s work is represented in Arizona by: The Artist’s Gallery in Flagstaff, ArtStudio 101 in Scottsdale and the Wild Holly Gallery in Carefree. His award winning work has appeared in books, magazines, calendars and other publications including Arizona Highways. Jim’s prints hang in private and corporate collections around the world.
