Claudia Olivos originates from Santiago, Chile. She was born in Washington DC to her Chilean (diplomat) parents, and grew up in Chile under the dictatorship of Pinochet. Her family returned to the United Sates when she was in her mid teens.
She holds a BA in Psychology, and a BFA in painting from George Mason University. She furthered her studies in Art at VCU towards an MA, until finally receiving her MFA from Vermont College. The founder, and one time owner of a gallery in Washington D.C., she currently exhibits widely in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area and internationally. She has appeared in â€œWhoâ€™s Who of American Women (2003, 2004, 2005, and upcoming 2006)â€ , â€œWhos Who of American Artists (2005)â€ and â€œWhoâ€™s Who of American Educators (2005)â€ Her paintings have been featured in several publications including on the cover of the book "Coming Home" by J. Pizarro, on the cover of a CD -Silence Beyond Octaves-to benefit women survivors of violence in Rwanda, Bosnia & Afghanistan. Olivosâ€™ images have also been used on commemorative posters to benefit Domestic violence and literacy. Olivos has also been in involved in the local arts community with various projects varying from working with youth at risk & immigrants to painting backdrops for scenery for Teatro de La Luna, where she is on the Board of Directors.

Claudia Olivos resides in Arlington, Virginia with her son Julian and her husband, Mexican painter Sergio Olivos M. She is a full time artist, primarily a painter, she is also involved with assemblage work, drawing, photography, poetry and moreâ€¦in addition to her involvement with projects as a community artist. She teaches at the Art League in Alexandria, is adjunct faculty at the Art Institute of Washington. Claudia and Sergio actively exhibit their work internationally and nationally, and hold private lessons in their studio.
