My Images

Leonard Aitken has been painting for 30 years. Light is paramount in the creation of a successful landscape or seascape. My marine paintings are always dominated by movement and light. The paint needs to be applied quickly to impart the sensation of movement in a marine painting. My floral works are often lit with a glowing backlight, showing up all kinds of details in the leaves and petals.¢??

Leonard completed a Bachelor of Arts (Visual Arts) passing with Distinction) at Charles Sturt University (Wagga Wagga) (1993-5).
Currently Leonard is producing both Surrealist and Realistic botanical work. He likes to work quickly but still manages to produce a smooth finished look to most of his works.

He has been involved in numerous group exhibitions and has had seven solo exhibitions (Wagga (2), Deniliquin, Bellingen and Coffs Harbour (4)) and has won numerous prizes for painting, drawing, animation and installation.

Leonard is partial to bright, high keyed colours, strong contrasts and complex, detailed works.
