Frances Whitman Profile
My Images
Following the Discovery of a natural talent for painting and drawing, Wildlife Artist Frances Whitman has met with acclaim for her animal paintings and drawings.
Entirely self taught, she finds that a mix of Faber-castell pencils and pastels is the most effective media for achieving the fine details in her drawings. For her paintings, Frances works in oils and acrylics.
To Frances the most challenging aspect of her work is capturing eye expression, the life and soul of her pictures.
In 2008 Frances was delighted to win an award for her drawing of a tiger entitled 'Hypnotized' at the 10th Annual Exhibition of the Marwell International Art Society, the world's largest exhibition of wildlife art, which was held at Marwell Zoo. Simon King, the multi award-winning wildlife cameraman, film-maker and television star of BBC's 'Big Cat Diary' and 'Springwatch' opened the exhibition and presented the awards.
In 2009 Frances was thrilled to win the Simon Combes Award for the Best African picture in the show at the Wildlife Art Society International Exhibition 2009 held at Nature in Art, Wallsworth Hall, Twigworth Gloucester. Frances was presented with her award by Susie Combes.
Frances is a member of 'TWASI' The Wildlife Art Society International and 'MIWAS' Marwell International Wildlife Art Society, and shows her work at their annual and regional exhibitions. She is also a member of the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation and is involved in fundraising activities on the conservation of wildlife.
