Why Do I Paint With Pastels?

I have worked in watercolor, printmaking, oils and acrylics before finding my way to pastels. I like the immediacy and rich colors that pastels provide. There are literally hundreds of premixed pure vibrant colors in both hard and soft combinations. The papers have a variety of painting surfaces, and it's easy to combine pastels with other mediums.

Pastels have been a challenging medium and provide me a meaningful form of expression that seems to fit my temperament. I've always had a strong commitment to drawing, and consider working with pastels a drawing as well as painting medium with exciting and unlimited possibilities
