Barbary Babe

Barbary Babe

While on a visit to Port Lympne, (one of the Aspinall Animal Sanctuaries in Kent, England), I was surprised and delighted to find a breeding programme for Barbary lions was well under way.

The Barbary lion seems so much more expressive than the more usually seen Asiatic and African lion. I just couldn't resist the look on this young lady's face as she called to her mother.

I painted a miniature version of the cub measuring 3x4 inches and was awarded the Mary Scott-Kestin cup at the Hilliard Society annual exhibition 2004, held at Wells, Somerset, England in October.

The image has proved to be so popular that it seemed logical to paint the cub again.

The painting advertised is available for sale and will be considered for licensing.
