May 2005 sees the return of the second ?Raw Art Festival?. The first festival held in August 2004 was London?s largest and best exhibition of International self-taught ever mounted. It exhibited some truly extraordinary Folk/Intuitive/Marginalised/Outsider/Self-taught/Visionary art etc. It was probably the first festival to openly bring together such a wide variety of ?non-mainstream? top quality raw artists and organisations from around the world together under one roof. The organiser of the two Raw Arts Festivals, Piers Midwinter aims to make the 2005 event bigger and better. He has thus hired a P.R company to ?Market and help promote the Festival' in various ways.
The 2005 festival will now exhibit at least 70 artist?s works. The artists will be coming from at least 12 different countries, with a high proportion coming from France, U.K and the U.S.A. In particular, the festival is proud to attract some of the world?s best self-taught artists such as Dover Abrams (U.S.A), Philippe Aini (France), Jenik (U.S.A), Pauline Jones (U.K), Ewan McDougall (New Zealand), Kelly Moore (U.S.A), Nemo (U.S.A), Liz Parkinson (Australia) and many others.
Other artist?s works will be represented by organisations such as: Arthouse, which is a charity that works with people with epilepsy and learning disabilities, Hoffmann for Autism, which is a charity that caters for adults with Autism or Aspergers Syndrome and Thai Fine Art Ltd which offers work by young or little known Thai artists. What is more extraordinary is that virtually all the artists and representatives from the organisations are intending to be physically present for at least the private view.
The Festival will again be held at the Candid Arts Trust in Central London. The Trust is being hired independently by Piers. The Trust has both a ground floor and a first floor gallery, each of which is very large (22 metres * 12 metres at the widest points). Each floor has 25,000 square feet of exhibiting space. This vast space helps each artist to get a decent amount of space to exhibit their art and helps to create a relaxed atmosphere. This is further boosted by an atmospheric caf?ext door. Last years private view had a really ?good vibe? and Piers is keen to encourage this.
The Candid Arts Trust is located just behind Angel Tube station in Central London and is thus easy to get to. It also benefits from the vibrant Angel market nearby.
The festival will be open to the general public: Mon 16th to Sat 21st May 2005
VENUE: Candid Arts Trust, 3 Torrens Street, London EC1V 1NQ, United Kingdom
Near: Angel Tube station
Piers Midwinter is an artist, creator and director of Raw Art Link and the Raw Arts Festivals.
