William Duncan

The Artist

Natural of South Shields in North East, England, William Duncan moved to Brazil about 14 years ago where he studied art at Panamericana School of Arts in São Paulo . He also studied History of Art with Rodrigo Naves in 2005. At this time he shared a studio with artist Ilka Lemos and had his first exhibitions at different Cultura Inglesa branches. In 2007 he helped with a project for the new underground station mural by artist Ilka Lemos.
Now, more artistically mature, William has his own studio in the centre of São Paulo. In 2008 with the theme Masks, the artist portrayed his vision of particular elements of society using mythological elements in a solo exhibition at the Centro Brasileiro Britânico in São Paulo. This work also uses his various experiences of his travels around the world including Australia.
In his youth he worked in several theatrical productions including Oliver ,
Peter Pan , Jumpers and the Greek tragedy "Phaedra at the Aldwych "
( Glenda Jackson).
Nowadays, tired of cold climates, William never dreams of giving up the Brazilian Land which he loves, the sun and warmth, elements which inspire his work.
In an explosion of colours and innocent sensuality Duncan portrays his everyday life with much creativity and talent.

Favourite artists: De Kooning,Frida Kahlo,Karel Appel and Frank Stella.

In April 2009,William opened a new studio in the historic city of Parati,Brazil.
